If we always followed the rules, our most beloved products would never see the light of day. At Agitator, we like to challenge convention and offer whiskies that others can't, won't or dare to do.
MATURATION
Agitator Chestnut Cask whisky is matured in chestnut casks, which is prohibited by The Scotch Whisky Regulations. Scotch whisky can only be matured in oak casks. We think this is stupid. Chestnut casks give the whisky a distinct character and flavour experience that is different from traditional oak casks. Chestnut casks give a deeper colour and more tannins and harshness. But it also gives us complex flavours.
NOSE & PALATE
Agitator Chestnut Cask whisky has an aroma of dried fruit with hints of sweet raisin notes and red berries. Aged in chestnut casks, the flavour is dominated by the same notes you find in the aroma. These are complemented by light notes of honey and vanilla, the latter coming from the ageing in Bourbon casks. The flavour is quite long but delicate, with a slightly dry finish where the wood tannins come in. A light smoky note is present in the background and adds complexity to the whisky.
